1. How do users earn stars?
The user rating system is mostly controlled via points rewarded by the author of a review. For instance, if you comment on a review and offer some advice, the author has the ability to reward you points for being helpful. The more points you earn, the more stars you earn.

2. What is the "add a gadget" button on my blog?
The add a gadget feature is new on user blogs. It allows you to customize your blog posts with web applications from Google Gadgets. If you click on the Add a Gadget button, you will find more information.

3. What are browser "cookies" and how do I enable them?
Browser cookies allow websites to maintain a "state" regarding a visitor. For instance, to show certain features only available to users who are logged in, we use cookies. To verify cookies are enabled on your web browser, do the following:

- Open your web browser.

- Go to the menu option: Tools -> Internet Options

- Go to the Privacy tab, then click the Advanced button.

- Here you can specify whether or not to allow cookies. If you select the Prompt option, your web browser will tell you each time a website is trying to use cookies, and give you the option to accept it or deny it. Alternatively, if you choose the Accept option, your web browser will just accept every cookie request without asking you.

4. I have not received my registration email with my initial password. What can I do?
Be sure to check your junkmail folder for our email. Sometimes our registration email can get caught up in your junkmail folder. Particularly if you have filters setup to only receive email from friends on your trusted list. If you are still unable to locate our email, and it has been over an hour, you can send us a request and we'll respond as soon as possible.

5. Why do I need to give you my email address to register on this site?
To help cut down on spam posts, we validate all our users by requiring a valid email address. It may take a few minutes longer to complete your registration, but in helps keep our site clean in the long run!

6. Do you give my email away to spammers?
NO. Of course not! We take your privacy very seriously. We do have an optional newsletter that you can signup for. Other than that, you should only hear from us when you subscribe to receive notifications for your reviews or from your blog.

7. Does the company I am writing about get notified about my review?
We offer the option to forward your review to the company using our extensive company email database or an email you specify. If you select this option, a copy of your review will get forwarded to the company. You can also choose whether or not the company can respond to you via email, or whether you wish to remain anonymous. We also offer a tool for companies to register and respond to consumer review on our site. Your email address is not disclosed to the company, and you will get notified if they post a response to your review.

8. What are the "Post to Digg" and "Add to Del.icio.us" links at the bottom of each review?
- Digg.com is a user-controlled news service. Users can post stories they think other users/readers may want to read/benefit from. We include the "Post to Digg" link to make it easier to do.

- Del.icio.us is a website that allows you to bookmark sites and pages you like. It is sort of a web-based bookmark system. We included the link to make it easier for users of Del.icio.us to add reviews they like to their Del.icio.us bookmarks.

9. If I comment on a review, does the author get notified?
Yes, if the author elected to receive notifications for their reviews.

10. Why should I post my review on My3cents.com?
Our site is one of the top consumer review forums on the web. If you want to get the word out about a particular company or product, we can help by publishing your review on our site and exposing it to search engines. Along with helping make other consumers aware, our site is also frequently visited by news reporters doing research for stories. Another great benefit is our user community. If you are having a particular problem, posting your review on our site will open the topic up for discussion. Our dedicated user community will offer advice and tips for solving problems whenever they can. The community working together to help solve consumer problems is what My3cents is all about!

11. What is the Trust Network?
As a registered user, you can support other users you think are helpful by "trusting" them. Trust votes contribute to a users overall rating.

12. What is my Block List?
Converse to "Trusting" a user, if you encounter a member whose reviews are consistently offensive, inaccurate, or otherwise low quality, you can add that member to your Block List. Just as the Trust Network promotes the work of those members you trust, the Block List makes it less likely that you will encounter contributions you do not value in the future.

13. I'm a representative from a company, how can I respond to reviews/complaints about our company?
We offer a company response tool for verified representatives of a company. Once you are registered, you will have access to respond to any of the reviews on our site for your company. Your responses get posted next to the consumer review and forwarded to the authors.

14. Why did my review not show up on the homepage?
Our homepage is not updated real-time. Sometimes it can take up to 5-10 minutes for an approved review to post to the homepage. Not all reviews are approved for the homepage. If your review was too short or lacked details it may not make the homepage.

15. I cannot find my review on the site? Where did it go?
Check your profile page. If you don't see your review there, it may have been removed. Reviews in violation of our site rules or terms of service may get removed by our moderators. You will not get notified when this occurs.

16. How do I respond to another user about comments made on my post?
At the bottom of your review you should see an "Add my 3 cents" link in the user discussion section. You can add a comment/response there. Alternatively, if you wish to leave a comment/question directly for a particular user, you can also post it to their blog by clicking on their userid/handle. There you can leave a message in their blog discussion section, or use their "Send me an email" link (if they have this feature enabled).

17. What is my M3C Inbox?
You can receive messages from other My3cents users in your M3C Inbox. It is an internal messaging system within My3cents.com. You must login to My3cents.com to be able to check your inbox for messages. Your e-mail address is not used or displayed.

18. What if I do not want to receive messages from other users?
You can disable messaging in your user profile/settings page.
